When is The Purple Run 5K/1K to be held?

Saturday, October 8, 2016.

5K starts at 8am. 1K starts at 9am.

Is this a road race?

The 5K route starts and finishes adjacent to the Park, winding through the streets of Newnan.

The 1K route takes place on the paved paths within the Park itself.

Has the 5K course been certified?

No, not yet. For this inaugural year, we thought the money better spent on marketing and awards. We do, however, plan to have the certification in place for the 2017 race.

Is there be a charity associated with The Purple Run?

Yes. All net proceeds from The Purple Run 5K/1K & Health Fair will be used to establish legal/emergency funds for the Community Welcome House (CWH). The CWH is a domestic violence shelter located in Coweta County, that services women and children from the entire greater Atlanta metro area.

Race Registration

How do I register for The Purple Run 5K/1K?

You can register online at Active.com->search ‘The Purple Run’.

How much is registration?

Registration for the 5K is $25. Registration for the 1K is $20.00.

If you sign up under a group, you save $5/entry.

Do I need to register my child?

If your child is walking/running, regardless of age, they will require a separate entry.

If your child is being pushed in a stroller, no additional registration will be required.

Can I register on the day of the race?

Yes. On site registration will be available on the morning of the race, starting at 6:30am.

However, we cannot guarantee you a t-shirt.

What if I register, but cannot make it to the race?

Registration monies are non-refundable.

However, if you are due a t-shirt, you can contact the race organizers to pick it up.

Will I receive confirmation of my registration?

Active.com will send you a confirmation email.

RACE PACKET PICK UP

Will there be early packet pick up?

Yes. We have arranged for 3 convenient locations.

Pick the location/day that best fits your schedule.

Where/when is this early packet pick up?

Packets will be available at the following locations, ONLY on the day/time noted:

~ Dynamic Spine Center (MacDuff Crossing, PTC)

Wednesday October 5th, from 12pm – 6pm

~ Newnan GNC (Walmart Shopping Ctr, Newnan)

Thursday October 6th, from 10am – 8pm

~ Orangetheory Fitness (Kroger Shopping Ctr on Lower Fayetteville Rd, Newnan)

Friday October 7th, from 10am – 8pm

Can I pick up my packet on the day of the race?

Yes. Come to the Registration area in the Park (Main Pavilion) starting at 6:30am.

What do I need to bring with me to get my packet?

It would be helpful if you bring along your confirmation email.

Awards

For the 5K, will there be awards for the fastest runners in each age category?

Yes. Insulated stainless steel tumblers will be awarded to the first and second place finishers in each age category, for both the male and female runners.

What are these age categories?

For prize consideration, the age categories for the 5K race will be: 10 and under, 11-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, & 70 and over.

Will there be prizes for the fastest overall times?

Yes, for the 5K. The fastest overall male and female finishers will each receive a fitness bundle  with product and services valued at over $200.

Will there be any masters or grandmasters awards given at the 5K race?

Yes, the fastest grandmaster finisher (we are defining ‘grandmaster’ as anyone age 50 and up) will receive Restaurant Gift Certificates totalling over $100 dollars. Here, the genders are not considered separately, but rather the person with the overall fastest time will be the winner.

Will there be medals for everyone that finishes?

Yes, in both the 5K and 1K races, everyone who finishes will receive a medal. That includes both the runners and the walkers. We appreciate the effort everyone has put forth, and the support given to our benefit charity, the Community Welcome House.

Will there be a costume contest?

We are encouraging everyone (both the 5K and the 1K participants) to come dressed in purple, and/or to show a dragonfly motif. Awards will be given to the team with the best themed costumes, to the adult with the best themed costume, and also to the child (up to age 10) with the best costume. Have fun with this! We look forward to seeing all your creativity!

Why purple and dragonflies?

Purple is the color denoting domestic violence awareness. And dragonflies stand for new beginnings. So since we are raising money for the Community Welcome House, we thought it fitting to emphasize these two themes.

What time is the awards ceremony?

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in the Park at 9:30am.

DAY OF THE RACE

What do I bring with me?

If you have picked up your race packet in the days prior to the event, be sure to bring your race number with you. You will also need something to attach it with- most people use safety pins

Is anything prohibited?

Park rules do not allow pets, glass bottles, or alcoholic beverages.

What if I have questions?

Come to the Main Pavilion in the Park. Someone will be there to assist you.

When do I arrive?

We suggest getting to the Park 45-60 minutes prior to your race start time.

If you still need to register and/or pick up your race packet, then arrive even earlier.

Registration will be manned starting at 6:30am.

Where do I park?

There will be parking at the Carl Miller Park itself, and at the Newnan Utilities building next door.

If both of these fill up, we will have overflow parking available at the Newnan High School.

Shuttle service would then be provided from NHS to the Park.

Will the streets be closed to traffic?

Immediately before and during the 5K, the city streets used by the runners (click for route map) will be closed off by the Newnan Police. Keep this in mind when arriving for the 1K.

Where do I go after I arrive?

The Registration table will be located in the Park near the Main Pavilion.

Runners are free to congregate in the near vicinity, and then migrate over to the warm up area.

We also encourage you to start visiting the nearby Sponsor and Health Fair booths.

When do the races begin?

5K starts at 8am. 1K starts at 9am.

Will there be anyone leading a warm up prior to the race?

Yes, there will be trainers leading the runners through a warm up before both the 5K and 1K.

This will take place approximately 10-15 minutes prior to each race start.

Will there be an opening ceremony?

Yes, there will be an opening ceremony prior to the 5K race. It is scheduled for 7:40am.

The American Legion will be present to raise the flag and lead us in The Pledge of Allegiance.

Do I need to bring water? Recovery snacks?

For the participants, we will have water available before, during and after the races.

We will also have post race snacks.

What if it rains?

The event will take place rain or shine. It will only be delayed or cancelled if weather conditions present an imminent danger to the participants.

Will there be activities after the races?

Yes, the Awards Ceremony and Post Race Celebration starts at 9:30am.

92.5FM The Bear will be broadcasting live from 10am – noon.

The Health Fair and Sponsor Booths will be set up until noon.

Food Trucks will be serving until noon (partial proceeds from which are being donated back to the Community Welcome House).
